Following structural surveys to several of Shell UK’s large crude storage tanks at Stanlow, a decision was reached to renew some tank floors.
Beech Group were contracted to cut out and remove the tank floors and associated pipework. The floors were constructed of mild steel with glass fibre coated protection.
The tanks were drained and an entrance large enough to accommodate a thirty five tonne excavator with demolition attachments was cut into the wall of the tank.
Following initial preparations to facilitate hot cutting to begin the process the tank floor was cut and removed using excavator with shear attachments. The glass fibre was removed for disposal as waste and the mild steel disposed for recycling.
