The Beech Group, operating as initially John Beech Limited, the original earthworks and Demolition Company has worked within Shell sites across the UK for the last 40 years, predominantly at Stanlow (Ellesmere Port, Cheshire), Shell Haven (Thames Estuary) and Silvertown (London Docklands).
As part of the services offered to Shell, and recently Essar (Stanlow Refinery), which have predominantly been demolition and asbestos removal, has also included the management and disposal/recycling of hazardous chemicals such as CFCs, crude oils, fuels and a range of chemicals utilised and manufactured at the various plants. Personnel at Beech are highly trained and have significant experience of handling and dealing with Hazardous chemicals and materials.
The Remediation arm has been involved in the removal/retrieval of lubricating oils from soils and groundwater beneath the Silvertown Oil Terminal on the Thames. Also the investigation, removal and treatment of spilt crude oils at the Stanlow refinery.
The consultancy has partnered Shell Global Solutions on tenders for the assessment and treatment of contaminated sites, Due to their involvement in Silvertown the Remediation arm was asked to assess the type, degree and extent of historical heavy metal contamination (arsenic of the order of 30,000 mg/kg) found within dye waste beneath one of their sites and thence treatment using MBS technology.
